Synopsis:
Artificial Intelligence is no longer a future technology, it is already embedded within banking systems, audit platforms, compliance tools, customer-facing applications and enterprise decision-making frameworks. While it presents significant opportunities for efficiency, innovation and business transformation, it also introduces complex legal, regulatory, governance and accountability challenges that organizations can no longer afford to overlook.
As adoption accelerates across sectors, governments, regulators and courts worldwide are grappling with questions of transparency, accountability, explainability and human oversight. The discussion explores the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, including India’s AI Governance Guidelines, global developments such as the EU AI Act, and the broader movement towards responsible and trustworthy AI governance.
The conversation also examines the principal legal and compliance risks associated with AI deployment, including privacy and data protection, AI training data, copyright disputes, deepfakes, misinformation, personality rights, cybersecurity, third-party vendor risks and the growing challenges posed by autonomous systems. Drawing upon recent litigation, regulatory developments and real-world examples, it considers how responsibility and liability are increasingly being assessed when AI systems influence decisions or cause harm.
Given the cross-functional nature of these risks, the discussion is particularly relevant for financial institutions, auditors, Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries, legal professionals, compliance teams, risk managers and governance functions. It also addresses practical organizational concerns such as the use of public AI tools, confidentiality obligations, AI procurement, vendor due diligence, data governance, cybersecurity expectations and emerging governance requirements.
The session concludes with a practical framework for responsible AI adoption, focusing on governance structures, compliance readiness, risk assessment mechanisms, board oversight and organizational controls. Participants will gain a structured understanding of the legal, regulatory and governance issues surrounding AI, together with practical insights for navigating the opportunities and risks presented by this rapidly evolving technology.
