Speaker Details:
Sakthi Thangavelu, a freelance consultant specializing in Data protection regulatory compliance. With over 20 years of IT experience, including 7 years of full-time work in privacy, Sakthi has worked for global giants such as Intel, Cognizant, Wipro and consulting several startups on data protection regulations such as GDPR. Sakthi’s expertise lies in developing privacy programs, conducting privacy impact assessments, handling complex privacy incidents and subject rights requests, privacy by design, AI Ethics, Responsible AI and AI governance. He is also an active participant in the India privacy professional community and mentors young professionals in their career progression.
Raja Krishnan, a Certified Information Privacy Professional (from IAPP), a qualified lawyer practicing Corporate Law and Secretarial Practitioner, and the leader of the legal vertical at Akshayam Corporate – Chennai. Raja has a keen interest in and exposure to the regulatory side of corporate companies and specialize in the Data protection space on GDPR, India DPDPA 2023 and advice corporate legal teams. Raja has been involved in drafting various corporate policies, privacy policies, website terms for various startups including Fintechs, establishing compliance monitoring systems, negotiations during mergers & acquisitions and interfacing with regulatory bodies such as RBI.
Brief description of the talk:
India has taken a big step towards safeguarding the privacy and security of digital personal data with the enactment of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA). The act focuses on both individual data rights and the legitimate processing of data, making it a novel law in India. Its implementation will ensure that the digital personal data of individuals is protected from misuse, abuse, and unauthorized access, which is a significant concern in today’s world.
In this session, you will get an overview of the DPDPA, key obligations for corporates and high-level guidance on the implementation steps.
